When will I know the results of my inspection?

The DC Department of Buildings issues inspection reports within 5 business days of your inspection, although in some cases we have found it can take longer.

If RentJiffy met the inspector on your behalf, we will email you the report by the next business day following our receipt, including any notes and pictures. If we have not received your report by the 6th business day, we will escalate on your behalf automatically — you do not need to contact us to trigger this.

If you met the inspector yourself, the DC Department of Buildings will issue your report directly. You can follow up with them if you have not received it within 5 business days.

Please note: The findings in your final report may differ from what was observed on the day of inspection. Before reports are issued, a DC Inspection Supervisor reviews and approves all reports as part of their standard office policy. This is a standard DC government process and not something RentJiffy controls. Any changes made during that review will be reflected in the final report you receive.

What if my property does not pass?

If your property does not pass, you will need to make the necessary repairs and schedule a reinspection with the DC Department of Buildings. Please be aware that DC does not accept pictures, video, or receipts for work completed as a substitute for a physical reinspection by a DC government inspector. A reinspection must be conducted regardless of the nature of the repairs.

Business days are Monday through Friday, excluding federal holidays.
