If You Scheduled the Inspection Directly with DC
For Basic Business License Inspections
If you scheduled your inspection through the DC Department of Buildings (DOB), the Designated Point of Contact you listed should typically hear from the inspector by 9:00 AM on the morning of the inspection. However, there may be delays.
If you haven’t heard from the inspector by 9:00 AM, we recommend:
- Calling the Department of Buildings: 202-671-4500
- Using their online chat function: Visit dob.dc.gov
Also, be sure to check your email inbox. DOB's automated system usually sends an email around 6:00 AM on the day of the inspection with the inspector’s name and contact details.
For Certificate of Occupancy Inspections
For Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) inspections, the Designated Point of Contact may still hear from the inspector by 9:00 AM, but it's also common for inspectors to call later in the day.
C of O inspectors often handle more complex inspections, which can shift their schedules. They may wait until they have a clearer view of their day before making contact.
If you haven’t heard from the inspector, you can:
- Call DOB: 202-671-4500
- Use the online chat tool on dob.dc.gov to ask for the inspector’s contact information.
If You Hired RentJiffy to Handle the Inspection for You
If RentJiffy is managing your inspection and you selected “someone will be present” as the access method, we will contact the Designated Point of Contact (POC) on the morning of the inspection with a 2-hour arrival window, once we’ve heard from the DC inspector. Typically this is by 9am but occasionally maybe later if we have been unable to make contact with the assigned inspector. Please know as soon as we hear from the inspector we will reach out to the POC.
If you chose an access method such as lockbox, electronic lock, or other remote entry, an automated message will not be sent with a time window. In these cases, our team will reach out manually once we have the inspector’s schedule.
