How to Cancel Your RentJiffy Registered Agent Service

To cancel your RentJiffy Registered Agent service, you'll need to obtain documentation from D.C. government agencies showing you've updated or closed your registrations, then submit your cancellation through your RentJiffy account portal.

Why documentation is required: D.C. law requires your registrations to have a registered agent at all times. Before we can close your account, we need proof that you've either transferred to a new agent or shut down the registrations entirely.

Renewal dates: As long as you submit your cancellation request with the required documents before your renewal date, you will not be charged for the next year's service—even if our review finishes after that date. Check your renewal date in your Rent Jiffy account's Registered Agent section by going to rj3.rentjiffy.com.

⚠️ Multiple Properties: Complete This Process for Each One

If RentJiffy is the registered agent for more than one of your properties, you must complete this entire process separately for each property. Each has its own D.C. registrations, its own required documents, and its own cancellation request.

There are no batch cancellations. Finish one property completely, then start the next.

Click the path below that matches your situation. Open that section and follow the steps. You don't need to read the others.

Path 1 — I sold the property or stopped renting (I own as an individual or personal trust)

Complete these steps in order.

Step 1: Cancel Your Basic Business License

File a license cancellation with the D.C. Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP).

See our step-by-step guide: How to Cancel a D.C. Rental Property License

File with:

  • DLCP — Business Licensing Division
  • Phone: 202-671-4500
  • Address: 1100 4th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024

Processing time: Depends On Cancellation Method. Can be same day up to 5 business days.
You will receive: Official cancellation letter on D.C. government letterhead

Note on RAD: You do not need to take separate action with the Rental Accommodations Division (RAD). The license cancellation covers it.

Step 2: Submit Your Cancellation Request

Once you have your cancellation letter, log in at rj3.rentjiffy.com:

  1. Navigate to Registered Agent in the left navigation bar
  2. Click "Cancel Account" — if you have multiple accounts, confirm you're canceling the right one
  3. Follow the on-screen directions
  4. Upload your documents when prompted

Documents to upload:

  • Official license cancellation letter from DLCP on government letterhead

Format: PDF only. Scans are acceptable; originals not required.

📌 Multiple properties: Repeat this entire path for each additional property. Each requires its own cancellation request.

Path 2 — I sold the property or stopped renting (I own through an LLC, corporation, or other business entity)

Complete these steps in order. The sequence matters — some agencies require proof of earlier filings.

Step 1: Handle Your Business Entity

Choose the option that applies to you:

Option A — Dissolving the entity entirely

File Articles of Dissolution with DLCP.

File with:

  • DLCP — Corporations Division
  • Phone: 202-671-4500
  • Address: 1100 4th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024

Processing time: Depends on Expediting Speed Chosen At Time Of Filing (Next Business Day to 15 Business Days)
You will receive: Certificate of Dissolution or stamped Articles of Dissolution

⚠️ Legal notice: Consult a qualified attorney before dissolving your business entity. There may be legal, tax, or regulatory reasons to keep it active. RentJiffy is not a law firm and cannot advise on this decision.

Option B — Entity stays active (no longer renting this property)

File Form RA-3 — Statement of Change of Registered Office or Registered Agent.

File with:

  • DLCP — Corporations Division
  • Phone: 202-442-4400
  • Address: 1100 4th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024

Path 3 — I'm still renting and switching to a different registered agent (I own as an individual or personal trust)

Complete these steps in order. RAD will likely require your updated license when you file, so the license update must come first.

Step 1: Update Your Basic Business License with the New Agent

File with:

  • DLCP — Business Licensing Division
  • Phone: 202-671-4500
  • Address: 1100 4th Street SW, Washington, DC 20024

Step 3: Submit Your Cancellation Request

Once you have both documents, log in at rj3.rentjiffy.com:

  1. Navigate to Registered Agent in the left navigation bar
  2. Click "Cancel Account" — if you have multiple accounts, confirm you're canceling the right one

Path 4 — I'm still renting and switching to a different registered agent (I own through an LLC, corporation, or other business entity)

Complete these steps in order. Each agency may require documentation from the previous step.

Renewal Date and Billing

Submit your cancellation request with the required documents before your renewal date and you will not be charged for the next year — even if our review finishes after that date. You do not need to wait for our review to complete.

Government filings can take a few days. Start early.

Common Questions

My renewal date is coming up and I don't have my documents yet.

Start the government filing process immediately. As long as you submit your cancellation request with the required documents before your renewal date, you won't be charged for the next year.

What if I submit but my documents are incomplete?

We'll contact you with specifics. Complete documentation before your renewal date = no charge. Renewal date passes with incomplete documentation = you're responsible for the next year's fee.

The D.C. agency won't process my filing because RentJiffy is still listed.

Contact the agency directly and explain you're in the process of changing agents. For business entities, you may need to complete the RA-3 change before the license update will process.

I'm selling but haven't closed yet.

If you still have a tenant, do not cancel your license before the sale closes. As long as a tenant is in the property, you are legally operating as a housing provider under D.C. law and your license must remain active. Your obligations as a landlord — including your RAD registration and registered agent requirement — continue until the tenancy ends or the sale is complete and the new owner has assumed those obligations.

We recommend consulting with your attorney before taking any steps if you have an active tenant and a pending sale.

I only want to cancel some of my properties.

Cancel only the account(s) for the properties you're closing. Each has its own cancellation request — canceling one does not affect your others.

Can I email my documents instead of using the portal?

No. All cancellation requests must go through the portal at rj3.rentjiffy.com. Technical issues? Contact support@rentjiffy.com.

Do I need to dissolve my LLC or just change the registered agent?

Depends on whether your entity is ceasing operations entirely or continuing for other purposes. Consult your attorney or accountant. RentJiffy cannot advise on this.
