The Short Answer
No, RentJiffy cannot provide lease agreements or other legal forms to our customers.
Why We Can't Provide Lease Forms
Unlike some jurisdictions, Washington, DC does not have a "standard" residential lease form that is universally used or endorsed by the District government.
More importantly, RentJiffy is not a law firm, and providing lease agreements would constitute the practice of law. We are prohibited from engaging in activities that could be considered legal services, including drafting, selecting, or providing legal documents such as lease agreements.
Our Recommendation
We strongly recommend consulting with an attorney who understands DC Landlord-Tenant law to help you create a lease agreement that:
- Complies with all current DC regulations
- Protects your interests as a landlord
- Includes all required disclosures and provisions
- Addresses the specific needs of your rental property
An experienced attorney can ensure your lease is legally sound and tailored to your particular situation.
If You're Working with a Real Estate Professional
If you have hired a Realtor or property manager to assist with marketing your rental property, they likely have access to and use the GCAAR (Greater Capital Area Association of Realtors) lease forms. These forms are regularly updated and designed for use in the DC and Montgomery County markets.
Important Warning About GCAAR Forms
If you have NOT hired a Realtor or property manager, we must caution you about attempting to use GCAAR lease forms on your own. These forms are:
- Copyrighted materials owned by GCAAR
- Licensed only for use by GCAAR members and authorized parties
- Not available for use by the general public
Using these forms without proper authorization could have serious legal consequences, including potential copyright infringement claims.
