Congratulations on passing your Basic Business License (BBL) inspection! This is an important milestone in the licensing process for your rental property. What happens next depends on whether you hired RentJiffy to handle your inspection or worked directly with DC.
If RentJiffy Handled Your Inspection
Your Inspection Report
Once we receive your official inspection report, we'll email you a copy but also begin working to get your license issued by uploading this report directly into the DC licensing system so the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP) can proceed with issuing your license.
Timeline for License Issuance
Your BBL will be issued and sent to you from RentJiffy by email, typically within 3 to 7 business days of passing the inspection.
Important Note: DLCP will do a check to ensure you are compliant with the City's Clean Hands mandate. The mandate means you do not have any outstanding debts of more than $100 or have any outstanding tax returns. If you are not compliant, they will be unable to issue your license until you are in compliance.
What to Expect After Receiving Your License
Once you receive the email with your license, the next steps will depend on your property's rent control status:
For properties NOT subject to rent control:
- You will immediately receive a second email asking you to sign the Rental Accommodations Registration (RAD) application
- Please sign the RAD application electronically
For properties subject to rent control:
- You will first receive an email asking you to complete Rate of Return information
- This will be followed by the RAD registration request
- Please sign the RAD application electronically
Timeline note: Due to RAD's new Rent Registry system, the timeline for RAD to accept your registration is running as long as 4 weeks as of October 1, 2025.
If You Worked Directly with DC for Your Inspection
Your Inspection Report
The DC Department of Buildings (DOB) will email you with your inspection report at the email address you used when scheduling your initial inspection.
ACTION REQUIRED: Send Us Your Inspection Report
Please send RentJiffy a copy of your inspection report PDF immediately to support@rentjiffy.com including the property's street address and the word PASSED in the subject line. We need the actual PDF report (not just the email notification that you passed) to continue processing your file and ensure your licensing proceeds smoothly.
