Getting a new inspection date
If your inspection date doesn’t work for you, you must move quickly to get another date. We say quickly because we don’t want you to incur fees for failing to cancel an inspection from DOB.
The inspection process depends heavily on the type of inspection you need to have and who is handling the inspection for you. Here, we’ll explain what your three choices are for getting an inspection date that works for you.
1. For Certificate of Occupancy Zoning Use and Third-Party Oversight Inspections
If this does not apply to you, go to 2. If it does, please continue reading.
For this kind of inspection, RentJiffy has to submit the request regardless of who handles the inspection (it could be RentJiffy, paid by the owner to go to the inspection in their place, or the owner, who handles the inspection on their own).
To get the ball rolling, email support@rentjiffy.com. For the email subject, use the following sentence and be sure to include your property address.

Just so you know, DOB usually schedules these inspections with 2 - 3 days’ notice. Note: Per DOB policy, cancel/reschedule requests must be received at least 24 hours before the inspection date. Otherwise, DOB may impose a $90 fee.
Please email your request to us as soon as possible. If we receive your reschedule request after 7am and just one business day before your inspection, or if your request is not submitted with the correct subject line (see above), we may not be able to submit your request before the 24-hour deadline, and you may incur a fee from DOB.
As soon as D.C. tells us the new inspection date, we will email it to you.
2. For Basic Business License Inspections where you hired RentJiffy to schedule and meet the inspector on your behalf

Your next step is to email support@rentjiffy.com. For the email subject, use the following sentence and be sure to include your property address:

Please follow this exact format so we can see your email immediately.
Note: We must receive your reschedule request at least 3 business days before the inspection date in order to meet DOB’s 48-hour cancellation requirement.
We will typically email you within 24 - 48 business hours with your new inspection date.
3. For Basic Business License Inspections where you are managing the scheduling and inspection yourself
Because you are handling the inspection on your own, you will need to contact DOB directly to request a new date. You can do this by:
- replying to DOB’s email you received with the new inspection date
- following DOB’s emailed instructions, if provided
- emailing dob@dc.gov
Note: Per DOB policy, you must cancel/reschedule your inspection at least 2 business days before the scheduled date. Otherwise, they may charge you a $90 fee.
