A registered agent is required by any non-natural person (think Trust or Business Entity) and by owners who do not reside within the District of Columbia. The registered agent must be within the District and is authorized to receive service of any process, notice, or demand required or permitted by law to be served on the entity or owner. The term “registered agent” shall include a commercial registered agent (a company you hire to act as your agent) and a noncommercial registered agent (think a friend or family member who resides within the District).
The duties of a registered agent shall be to:
- Forward to the represented entity at the address most recently supplied to the agent by the entity any process, notice, or demand that is served on the agent;
- Provide the notices required by this title to the entity at the address most recently supplied to the agent by the entity
